Description

Have you ever wondered if there is life elsewhere amongst the stars of the cosmos? Of course you have!

This sky show presents the perfect setting to further consider such bold questions. Take time to ponder the possibilities from the comfort of your reclined camping lounge.

The sky and its treasures are explained by your knowledgeable sky guide, using simple language. Complexities of space are demystified.

You will see famous celestial objects overhead, including star clusters, nebulae and planets if they are in our visible sky. Your celestial feast includes views of the biggest and brightest stars seen from planet Earth. The best known constellations in the sky will be highlighted.

The galaxy is beautiful no matter what time of year, and the view is spectacular from our dark sky location.

At certain times of the year we also view naked eye visible galaxies. Your sky guide will weave together the great story of the sky and how we came to understand it.

When possible, fine examples of Australian Aboriginal interpretations of the night sky are included along with some classical western mythology. This sky show proceeds in clear conditions when the Moon is absent from the sky or at the most, a thin crescent.

Your sky show tonight combines entertainment, science and humour in good balance.

Your sky guide will explain the view overhead – but remember to BYO warm blanket – we cannot supply this type of warm gear until further notice.

You will be supplied with powerful binoculars for use during the sky show. Telescope views will further enhance your view and understanding of magnificent celestial objects.

There’s no better way to be introduced to our galaxy! No astronomy knowledge is required to attend this event.

Remember to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time. We lockdown and darken our site at least 15 minutes before the start time.

Very Young Children

This sky show is not suitable for children aged 0 to 5 years as they are too young to appreciate an astronomy experience. However, very young children in attendance must be paid for. We are unable to offer discounted pricing at this time. We may schedule discounted sky shows again, during school holidays after the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Very young children are not issued with sensitive or heavy instruments (including audio units or binoculars). If they are unable to understand or follow directions, a pre-requisite for this activity, it is unlikely they will be able to use a telescope. Decisions will be made at the discretion of Outback Astronomy staff. Parents and guardians are invited to contact us for further information or advice prior to purchasing tickets.

Stay safe and warm during the COVID-19 pandemic

Social distancing rules will be enforced at our premises. Our sky dome can accommodate generous spaces between individuals and groups, beyond social distancing requirements.

However, no warm gear will be issued by Outback Astronomy until further notice.

You must dress appropriately in cold months. Think about how it would feel if you were sitting in the snow. Now, imagine how to dress warmly so that you do not shiver. Your attire should include six or more layers, including thermals. Your hosts will be dressed in six to seven layers on a cold wintry night, and you should be too. In addition you will need a blanket, beanie, gloves and scarf.
