Please read before attending a night sky show
The night sky shows are held at 18817 Barrier Highway, Broken Hill, NSW, 2880.
- Outback Astronomy is located just 5.5km from the city, on the Sydney road.
- It takes just 8 minutes to drive from the Broken Hill Post Office to Outback Astronomy.
- From the Broken Hill Post Office, proceed to drive out of the city along Argent Street in a north-easterly direction.
- It’s 2.5 km to the edge of the city. At this point, Argent St is known as the Barrier Highway, or A32.
- Continue driving along A32 for a further 5.5km. Outback Astronomy is on the right.
All shows must be booked and paid for in advance of the published show time.
Payments can be made online up to 5pm CST or CSDT on the day of the scheduled show, provided there are available spaces in the sky show.
Some sky show groups are small and may fill quickly.

The status of scheduled shows will be displayed on our website during the day, and up to the start time of a scheduled show. We will also endeavour to call you on the mobile phone number you supplied to us when you booked.
To confirm show status, keep a watch on the website. You may also contact us on phone 0427 055 225. We don't mind if you text us, just be sure to identify yourself by name or your online order number.

Please arrive at 18817 Barrier Highway, Broken Hill 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of your night sky show.

It is important you are punctual.
Firstly, we don’t want you to miss the show.
Secondly, latecomers arrive with vehicle headlights blazing! We need you to be on time so that your eyesight is well-prepared for night sky viewing.
60 minutes for the sky show, plus 15 minutes to prepare eyes and give safety and equipment briefings.
Black Out Time
This commences from your arrival time at the location – it’s the 15 minute period before the start of the show.
This allows extra time for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. It also allows some time for important briefings on equipment and safety.
All shows start precisely at the scheduled time as published.
No refunds if you are late

Check the weather! Dress warmly, appropriately for outdoor conditions.
Always check the temperature before shows.
Bring a coat even if you think you don’t need it.
In winter, dress for extreme cold conditions - assume icy, bitterly cold conditions and then be happy if weather is better than expected!
Remember, you can always peel off layers if you feel warm!
Please, never underestimate how cold inland Australia can become. In Broken Hill in winter, we can expect evening temperatures at 0 degrees Celsius.
We issue wireless audio gear to enable perfect hearing of night sky guide.
We ask that you bring your own standard 3.5mm ear phones (same as used in mp3 players and tablets). If you don't have a pair, you may purchase online from us and we supply at your sky show.
We generally will not use audio with children's groups.
During the show
Turn off sources of bright lights eg screens from phones and tablets.
We recommend you place all devices on silent mode and leave in your vehicle or you can place face down in special containers we will make available for you during the show.
There are no toilet breaks - note that we do not have toilets! We are in the "great outdoors".
No eating. No smoking. Alcohol is prohibited.
We supply a variety of hot beverages included in your purchase price, including tea, coffee, soup and/or hot chocolate.
We may charge for bottled water.
We have a limited variety of soft drinks available during warm months. These can be purchased for $4 each.

Broken Hill’s time is based on Australian Central Standard Time (ACST).
ACST is Greenwich Mean Time + 10:30
Daylight Saving Time is in force during summer months.
Broken Hill is the only city in NSW on ACST. This is due mainly to historical considerations and the closer geographical links between Broken Hill and Adelaide.
